
Only 15 Liberty ships had been launched at Marinship, when the SS Jack London was the last to slide into the Bay in July 1943.
Though the yard was built in early 1942 to build Liberty Ships, tanker losses were dire. The Liberty Ship contract was cancelled and the yard focused on tankers , before ending operations in 1945.
The Marinship Corporation Yard at Sausalito, California built 93 ships: 15 Liberty ships, 16 fleet oilers, and 62 T2 tankers.
The SS Jack London was sold off privately in 1947 and renamed Christostomis, then sold again in 1948 to be renamed Nora. She kept that name until 1958 when a further sale saw her name changed to Bellatrix. Under that name she was scrapped in April 1968 at Spezia.
